Motorway Driving Lessons in Coventry
Motorway driving lessons in Coventry help newly-qualified and nervous drivers build confidence on faster, busier roads. Each lesson works on the skills motorways demand: joining and leaving at speed, holding lane discipline, and judging the gaps in moving traffic. DVSA-approved instructors are available. You practise on real motorway roads with an instructor beside you, not a simulator, so each lesson reflects real driving conditions.
Who motorway lessons are for
Motorway lessons in Coventry suit three groups of driver. Once you know which group you fall into, the next question is what a motorway lesson actually covers.
Newly-qualified drivers
Newly-qualified drivers who passed without motorway experience make up the first group, because the standard practical driving test does not include motorway driving.
Nervous drivers
Drivers who feel nervous on motorways are the second group, whether they have avoided them for years or had one bad experience that knocked their confidence. Returning and nervous drivers often want a gentle reintroduction to driving rather than a motorway course straight away. When that describes you, our refresher driving lessons cover town driving, junctions, and roundabouts as well, and you can add motorway work once your confidence returns.
Learner drivers
Learner drivers form the third group, with one condition. Drivers who have not passed their test yet should start with the core syllabus. Our driving lessons in Coventry build the road skills you need before motorway tuition makes sense.
Yes, learner drivers can take motorway lessons, but only with an approved driving instructor in a dual-control car. This has been the rule since 2018, and it exists so the instructor can take control if a situation needs it. At MMS Driving School, that means a learner motorway lesson is delivered only by a confirmed DVSA-approved ADI in a dual-control car, namely Muniba Sahily or Mohamed Sahily. A learner driver cannot practise on a motorway with a friend or family member, even if that person holds a full licence.
What you'll cover
A motorway lesson works through four core skills in a logical order. You begin before you even join the carriageway, then build up as your confidence grows.
Joining and leaving the motorway
Joining and leaving the motorway comes first, because slip roads are where many drivers lose confidence. You learn to match your speed to the traffic already on the road, then merge without forcing other vehicles to brake. Leaving early and reading exit signs in good time is part of the same skill.
Lane discipline
Lane discipline is the second skill. You learn when to use each lane, why the right-hand lane is for overtaking only, and how to move back to the left once you have passed.
Speed and gaps
Speed and gaps come third. You practise keeping a safe following distance at higher speeds, judge the space you need to change lanes, and adjust for rain, spray, and heavy traffic.
Reading motorway signage
Reading motorway signage is the fourth skill. You cover gantry signs, variable speed limits, and what to do when a lane closes ahead of you.

Frequently asked questions
How many motorway lessons will I need?
The number of motorway lessons you need depends on your starting confidence and how often you expect to use motorways. Some drivers book two to four lessons to build up. Your instructor reviews your progress after each lesson and gives you honest feedback.
Do I need to book a wider course to take motorway lessons?
No, you do not need a wider course. These are standalone motorway lessons focused only on motorway skills, and you can book them on their own without enrolling in anything else.
Can I have a female instructor for motorway lessons?
Yes, a female-instructor option is available. Muniba Sahily is a DVSA-approved ADI who teaches motorway lessons in Coventry and the surrounding towns, subject to her schedule.
Which languages can lessons be taught in?
Lessons are available in English, Hindi, Urdu, and Persian. Tell us your preferred language when you book and we will try to match you with an instructor who speaks it, subject to availability.
