Safeguarding Policy

MMS Driving School is committed to safeguarding the welfare of every learner, and we require parental or guardian consent for all learners under the age of 18. We aim to provide a safe, respectful, and professional learning environment for all pupils, with particular care for young and vulnerable learners.

MMS Driving School is a Coventry-based driving school run by owner and principal instructor Muniba Sahily, serving Coventry, Bedworth, Nuneaton, Rugby, Leamington Spa, Warwick, and Kenilworth.

Our Commitment

Safeguarding means protecting learners from harm and promoting their welfare. We are committed to:

  • treating every learner with dignity, respect, and patience;
  • providing a safe learning environment during every lesson;
  • recognising and responding appropriately to any safeguarding concern; and
  • maintaining clear professional boundaries at all times.

Learners Under 18

We welcome learners under the age of 18 and take extra care to protect younger pupils. For any learner under 18:

  • Parental or guardian consent is required before lessons begin.
  • We ask a parent or guardian to provide contact details so they can be kept informed and reached if needed.
  • We are happy to answer any questions a parent or guardian has about how lessons are run.

A parent or guardian is welcome to discuss any concerns or specific needs before the first lesson so we can plan appropriately.

Professional Conduct Standards

Our instruction is delivered to high professional standards. Our instructors are DVSA-approved, and we expect all lessons to be conducted with:

  • appropriate, professional, and respectful communication;
  • clear boundaries between instructor and learner;
  • transparency with parents and guardians of under-18 learners; and
  • prompt, sensitive handling of any concern that is raised.

DBS checks: Our instructors are DBS-checked.

Everyday Safeguarding Practice

To keep every learner safe, we also commit to:

  • Communication: contact with learners is for lesson-related purposes only; messages with under-18 learners are kept transparent with a parent or guardian.
  • Physical contact: instruction is verbal — we do not make physical contact with a learner except to prevent immediate danger using the car's dual controls.
  • Photography: we do not photograph or film a learner without their consent, or a parent or guardian's consent for under-18s.
  • Pick-up and drop-off: collection and drop-off points are agreed in advance, and lesson times and locations are recorded.
  • Records: safeguarding concerns are written down and kept securely in line with our Privacy Policy, and retained only as long as necessary.

Chaperone Arrangements

We understand that some learners or their families may feel more comfortable having a chaperone present, particularly for younger or less experienced pupils. If you would like to discuss having a parent, guardian, or trusted adult accompany a lesson, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate reasonable requests.

How to Raise a Safeguarding Concern

Our designated safeguarding lead is Muniba Sahily, owner and principal instructor. If you have a safeguarding concern about a learner, an instructor, or a lesson, please tell us as soon as possible so we can act. You can:

We will treat every concern seriously and sensitively. If a child or vulnerable person is at immediate risk of harm, please contact the emergency services on 999 without delay. Concerns can also be reported to the relevant local authority safeguarding team or the NSPCC.

If your concern is about the safeguarding lead herself, you do not have to raise it with us first — you can go directly to an external body: the police, your local authority's children's safeguarding team, or the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000.
