Book on GOV.UKWherever you test, the DVSA practical follows the same format and lasts about 40 minutes. Here's every part of the test, in the order it happens.
Reading a number plate from about 20 metres. If you can't, the test won't go ahead.
Vehicle-safety questions — one before you drive, one while you're driving.
General driving on a range of roads and traffic conditions, following the examiner's directions.
Around 20 minutes of independent driving, usually following a sat-nav.
One reversing manoeuvre, chosen by the examiner from the standard set.
For about one test in three, an emergency stop — stopping quickly and safely on the examiner's signal.
You can make up to 15 driving faults and still pass; a single serious or dangerous fault is a fail.
Pick the centre whose roads you're most comfortable on — usually your nearest, because you'll have practised there. If two are close, ask your instructor which local road types play to your strengths.
You can book any centre on GOV.UK regardless of where you live, and swap it later if a nearer slot appears.
No. You can book any centre on GOV.UK, but learning on the roads around the centre you'll test at is a real advantage, so most learners choose their local one.
Both are on GOV.UK. MMS doesn't book or influence the DVSA test; we prepare you on the local roads and help you judge when you're ready.
