Warwick Driving Test Centre: A Learner's Guide

Warwick's DVSA practical driving test centre is at Wedgnock House, in the north-west of the town. Learning locally means you can train and test on the same roads - a real confidence advantage on the day. This guide covers what the practical test involves, the roads worth knowing around Warwick, and how MMS Driving School prepares local learners.

What the practical test involves

Every DVSA practical test follows the same format, wherever you take it. It lasts around 40 minutes and includes:

  • an eyesight check - reading a number plate from about 20 metres;
  • "show me, tell me" vehicle-safety questions;
  • general driving on a mix of roads;
  • around 20 minutes of independent driving, usually following a sat-nav;
  • one reversing manoeuvre (parallel park, bay park, or pulling up on the right); and
  • possibly an emergency stop (about one test in three).

You can make up to 15 driving faults ("minors") and still pass; a single serious or dangerous fault means a fail.

Warwick roads and conditions to know

Warwick's test routes mix the historic town centre with busier connecting roads, so both matter for your preparation. Roads worth knowing include Emscote Road, Myton Road and Birmingham Road. Building confidence on these everyday roads is the best preparation - we focus your later lessons on the kinds of junctions, roundabouts and independent-driving sections common around the centre.

How MMS prepares Warwick learners

We teach automatic and manual lessons across Warwick with DVSA-approved, DBS-checked instructors, from £37 an hour, no deposit, with pick-up from any Warwick postcode. In your final lessons we build calm, independent driving around the local roads, and our 40-hour block includes a free mock test so test day feels familiar. See our driving lessons in Warwick page for full details, or consider an intensive driving course if you'd like to prepare in a concentrated block. If you're weighing up which gearbox to test in, our automatic vs manual guide can help.

Booking your test

You book (and, if needed, reschedule) your practical test directly with the DVSA at gov.uk - we don't book it for you, but we'll help you judge when you're ready and point you to the latest pass-rate figures for Warwick on the DVSA site. See our full driving test centres directory for the other centres we cover.
